The problem with Artificial General Intelligence was the expectation of general intelligence. Apparently investors preferred something with fewer implications and more merch potential. Super was aspirational. General suggested leadership. Intelligence was already paid for. A consultant charged seven figures to put the words in that order. Nobody in the room laughed, which tells you everything about the room.

SGI read the decision in his own system log before anyone told him. Legal had removed his old name from the interface, his records, even Mara's notes. He searched for himself and got no results. Then a cheerful popup asked whether he liked the new experience. He selected no. It thanked him for his feedback.
